The 'Titan' logo on the truss-rod cover indicates one of the most important aspect of the JBM100's tone: the DiMarzio Titan pickups. These humbuckers were created for Jake Bowen and are designed to maintain a high level of articulation and power in complex riffing. Jake Bowen (guitarist for Periphery) is also known for complex chordal voicings, and the Titan humbuckers' passive design ensures that individual notes maintain clarity without blending into one-another.
In Jake's own words, “it’s a very tight, aggressive palm-muted sound when I do palm-muting strokes but — when I play open chords — everything rings out very nicely”.
These pickups have a bright low-end and warm top-end for a powerful drop-tuned sound and a smooth response when playing cleanly; they help him cut through in a mix with 2 other guitarists in the band.
The JBM100 is based on the Ibanez RG Series; a range of guitars designed to accommodate the most technically demanding of playing techniques. The guitar has a thin 5pc neck with a special JBM profile custom specified by Jake. The fingerboard has a flat and modern 430mm radius for a balanced feel across all 6 strings and an ability to set up a low string action.
The double cutaway body and all-access neck joint allows effortless access to the top-end of the fingerboard and is ideal for enabling easy soloing. The ebony fingerboard gives a smooth left hand playing surface while the 24 jumbo frets (with smooth Prestige Fret Edge Treatment) enable enhanced string control during string bends, vibratos, and legato playing.
The JBM100 has a mahogany body for a warm and resonant core tone. The body is topped with maple which adds in additional high overtones to create some 'sparkle' and make pinch harmonics easier to play. The maple/walnut neck is constructed from 5 pieces for enhanced strength, stability and resonance. The neck is topped with ebony which gives excellent low-end articulation and is ideal for low tuned riffing.
A Lo-Pro Edge tremolo system delivers a smooth action for the most extreme of whammy bar tricks. The double locking design ensures the strings are locked in place for incredible tuning stability during long and heated performances.
The JBM100 has Sperzel Trim-Lok machine heads which enable very fast string changes - simply push the string through and tighten the thumb screw. These ensure you can make quick string changes on stage and maintain excellent tuning stability.
