The Cwejman VC-FCS Stereo Compressor is a versatile and unique stereo forward compressor, basing its design on the Cwejman VC FC forward compressor. The thing that makes the module so unique is the ability the voltage controllable parameters, allowing you to control the compressor from external modulation sources via the CV inputs. The external devices can range from sequencers to filters and everything in-between, making for some interesting sound-design results. It features a range of interesting features including a variety of two-position switches, allowing you to toggle between different modes including Sidechain and Knee modes.
The five, high-precision attenuators not only look sleek but allow you to dial in the right amount of level every time. It features Threshold, Ratio, Make Up Gain, Attack & Release attenuators for maximum flexibility. The threshold acts as a double attenuator, with the ability to switch between two modes of threshold settings. The first mode – variable, provides a range of -15 to +15dB when compressing an incoming signal. The constant threshold mode provides you with a variable range of +24 – 6dB, as well as a fixed output level at -6dB at the optimal ratio. The top of the module features 8-segment LED gain reduction meter, measured in dB for quick and easy monitoring of your compression levels.
One of the most unique features of the VC-FCS is the inclusion of a variety of 2-position switches, allowing you to toggle between settings and modes. A switch is included for toggling between Soft and Hard Knee compression settings. This changes the character of the compression, for varying results. It is designed to imitate the vintage opto compression gain reduction for optimal audio performance. It can be selected manually or by CV signals with two states. You can also switch between Sidechain settings from external to lo cut. The lo cut setting will roll off at 60Hz, whereas the Ext settings will depend on the external device’s frequency characteristics.
As well as providing a wide range of in-depth modulation control, the module also boasts a variety of analog audio and CV connection. There are dedicated CV connections for most of the parameters including: Knee, Mode, Attack, Release, Ratio and Makeup. There are dual audio inputs in the form of left and right connections. Additionally, the module features three Ex Side Chain connections comprised of: Return, Send and Env CV. The Env CV connection is an envelope follower output extracted from the gain reduction control signal.
