First released in the 60s, the SG was intended to take over from the recently discontinued Les Paul. The lightweight and powerful SG took the music world by storm, mainly aiming towards the rock scene with players such as Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers, Tony Lommi of Black Sabbath, and Pete Townshead of The Who.
The New SG Special VE features a mahogany body, carved into the classic SG body shape with elegant contours. Accompanied by a black pickguard and a custom SG style tune-o-matic bridge, the look and feel of the body offers a comfortable and stable playing experience. With its all mahogany body, the Epiphone SG Special delivers a warm, somewhat soft tone while still being well balanced with a good grind and bite.
The SG Special VE neck is made from mahogany in a D shape profile. This bolt-on neck is fitted with a Pau Ferro fingerboard with Pearloid ‘’dot’’ inlays and 22 medium-jumbo frets. The combination of Pau Ferro and mahogany offers a warm, mellow tone with good presence in the lower mids.
Loaded with two Epiphone open coil humbuckers, the SG Special VE produces a sound which will captivate any rock fan. The Epiphone ceramic-8 magnets offer a blend of past and future sounds, maintaining clarity but emulating rich and subtle tones with a smooth midrange and a pronounced cut on the top end.
