Improved oscillators
Featuring an additional oscillator for four in total, the premium-quality oscillators in Twin 3 each feature Pulse Width Modulation, Hard Sync and Phase Sync. Completely overhauled for an unlimited range of sonic potential, they each feature analog-modelled drift to add everything from subtle random pitch fluctuations to completely out-of-tune and phase movements. Polyphony has also been doubled from 32 to 64 with per-oscillator polyphony mode to step through the oscillators with each incoming note.
Each oscillator packs in four wave types including triangle, sawtooth, square and sine with an additional white and pink noise generator to give you a complete palette of tonal options.
Award-winning filters
FabFilter Twin 3 includes four multimode, stereo filters, whereby two are used in the delay section and the remaining two are used after the oscillator. Providing a huge range of flexibility, you can route the filters in three different ways, serial, parallel and per-oscillator/delay. With each filter, you can change the response between 6, 12, 24 and 48dB octave slopes to drastically change the character, adding more aggression and attenuation the higher you take the slope. This can be ideal for ensuring that your synthesizer tone can fit in even the densest of mixes by removing the body and retaining the mid-range and treble so it cuts through. Additionally, you can change the type of filter from an all-new EQ-style bell, shelf and vintage-notch to the already included low-pass, high-pass and band-pass.
Each filter has 11 unique characteristics that define the tone of the filtering and they range from smooth and articulate with moderate overdrive to self-oscillating and over-the-top with large amounts of harmonics and overdrive.
All-new FX section and Arpeggiator
Six redesigned modules are included in the all-new FX section to add something extra to your sound. Onboard you'll find a compressor, drive, reverb, delay, chorus and phaser, enough to let you enhance the dynamics, movement and space of your synth sound. In true FabFilter fashion, each effect is available as a modulation target, enabling complex movement in parameters using the EGs, EFs, XLFOs, XY controllers, Sliders and MIDI sources.
The new Arpeggiator, meanwhile, provides endless creative inspiration, with host sync, Groove/Legato, and Rate Offset controls, and the gamut of note value and order options.
Revolutionary interface for supercharging your workflow
Almost unrecognisable from previous iterations, FabFilter has completely revamped the interface for Twin 3, making it more immediately accessible, informative, intuitive and speedy than ever before. Implementing a new full-screen mode and scaling options, this interface will fit onto any screen type or into any workflow style, guaranteed. Displaying only the parameters you need, each individual oscillator or filter can be added and removed as required, leaving out anything you don't need to make quick adjustments without tedious menu-diving.
A stunning interactive, EQ-style display and darker colour scheme is the perfect visual map for soft synthesis sound design, letting you go for hours over longer sessions without getting strained eyes. Combining what you see with what you hear, FabFilter Twin 3 features responsive per-oscillator oscilloscopes, a beautiful spectrogram and full visualisation of modulation signals, where floating slot modulation sources can be hidden or grouped for collective tweaking.
Fully-featured preset browser
In keeping with the improvements to the GUI and workflow, Twin 3's slick new preset browser lets you navigate your own presets and factory presets quickly and easily. A streamlined interface is combined with multiple search functions including tagging and favouriting to find the sound you need in any future sessions with ease. You can even provide author descriptions of your presets for sharing with your friends and musician communities. For users upgrading from Twin 1 or 2, all of your previous presets will remain in place, making sure you can utilise familiar sounds in a new interface with more sonic exploration than was previously possible.
Drag-and-drop modulation
Getting started with modulation within Twin 3 is incredibly easy, with an intuitive drag-and-drop system where you can insert any amount of XLFOs, Envelope Generators and MIDI sources you will ever need together in a customized chain. Visual feedback is provided to show you the source of your modulation on any block in your matrix, allowing you to quickly and easily adjust parameters. The new and improved modulation sources ensure that you will be able to freely express your creativity and achieve the sound in your head with absolute ease, whether you're looking to offset your XLFO Speed to the attack parameter of your Envelope Follower or the feedback level of your delay signal, Twin 3 lets you actualise your design.
The newly designed XLFO provides you with a seemingly endless array of options to create unique and exciting sounds, including anything from a simple sine wave to a fully programmable 16-step sequencer. Other modulation sources can be generated through MIDI modulation, letting you modulate parameters using any form of MIDI data, making Twin 3 the ultimate solution for the live musician whereby you can use your plug-in as an instrument and 'perform' in changes to your sound design giving your show a live and organic feel that moves with energy and emotion to keep your listeners engaged.
FabFilter goodies
In keeping with the existing catalogue of FabFilter products, Twin 3 employs the same attention to detail and care in giving you the best experience possible when operating the plug-in. In order to deliver the smoothest experience possible, FabFilter Twin 3 utilises smart parameter interpolation to ensure that each setting change is performed smoothly with a high degree of responsiveness. Now, you can cycle through settings to find what will work best with your sound source without the distracting and offputting clicks, digital distortion artefacts or 'zipper' effects. When combined with the improved MIDI learn function, FabFilter Twin 3 responds immaculately when used in conjunction with a MIDI controller, meaning that when performing live, you can map each parameter to your chosen controller and adjust settings on the fly without any distractions, giving your audience the best listening experience possible.
If you are new to entering the world of creative synthesizer design, FabFilter Twin 3 has got you covered. With extensive help files and interactive help hints per parameter, you can learn the function of each parameter. Additionally, you can save each part of your signal chain, or save it globally for an overall preset that you can recall in an instant in future sessions.
