The SSL Fusion Vintage Drive is a digital emulation of the Vintage Drive processor from SSL's Fusion Stereo Analogue Colouration hardware offering both subtle air and spaciousness as well as prominent colouring effects.
Meticulously designed to produce gentle harmonic saturation and soft compression, Vintage Drive captures the analog sweet spot of vintage hardware while offering the capability to drive to all-out authentic analog distortion. Fusion Vintage Drive brings plenty of organic analog feel to your tracks, groups, mixes, and masters.
Offering a streamlined but intuitive interface, most of the control is presented through the Drive and Density dials. However, there are a number of extra parameters that offer greater control: input and output trim dials and meters, a wet/dry mix control, and an Auto Gain option that compensates for any gain boost.

Enjoy a uniquely refined drive that brings air and spaciousness to your high-frequency content while giving your low-frequencies a gentle warming boost. Fusion Vintage Drive excels at producing this distinctly subtle and classy tone but is also capable of producing more prominent colouring effects as you increase the drive. When pushed, the Fusion Vintage Drive achieves all-out authentic analog distortion to bring sparkle and heft to your mix. However, no matter how hard you push this powerful saturation effect your sounds retain a sense of sophistication and restraint that keeps your mix musical.
The focus of Vintage Drive's control lies in the Drive and Density dials. Drive adds gain, introducing a unique non-linear saturation to your signal. Ranging from one to eleven there is plenty of scope to dial in just the right level of drive. Density fine-tunes the effect of the circuit; lower values produce emphasis towards even-order harmonics which helps bring richness to your mix. Medium to higher Density settings result in less overall harmonic content, but with odd-order harmonics becoming more prominent as you push the circuit which helps you gain some additional loudness.
The saturation meter gives feedback about how much distortion is being added to the signal, offering progressive real-time metering you can dial in saturation with precision. Furthermore, the meter's backlight changes colour as it responds to the level of drive: green at low drive, moving up to amber at middle saturation levels, and red when you begin to max out. This intuitive metering device makes it an easy process to define your mix with precise levels of saturation.
